What data do we collect and why?
Our guiding principle is to only collect the data we need. Here’s what that means in practice:
Identity and access
When signing up to Elogic, we require identification information such as your name, email address and student number. This allows us to personalise your new account, and it enables instructor(s) and staff to link your Elogic account with their own records for the course(s) you are enrolled on. We will never sell your personal information to third parties, nor will we use you name for marketing purposes without your permission.
When you use our application, your browser automatically shares certain information including the operating system and browser version you are using. We track that information, along with the pages you are visiting, page load timing, and session duration for statistical purposes. We do not associate this data to individual user identities.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect any information classified as a protected characteristics defined by the Equality Act 2010. We also do not collect any biometric data.
In accordance with the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS), we do not collect any information from anyone under 13 years of age. Our website, products and services are all directed to people who are at least 13 years old or older.
Distribution of data
We will not distribute your personal data to other parties with the exception of the following strict circumstances:
Your data is shared with the instructor and/or educational institution of the course(s) you are enrolled on, allowing them to associate your activities on Elogic with those in the non-Elogic-provided part of the course (if any).
To comply with laws and regulations should we receive such request from authorised bodies and/or organisations.
In order to protect our rights; intellectual property and safety; and to protect the rights, intellectual property and safety of others.
Retention of data
We will retain your personal data until your account is closed. You may choose to close your account at any time. We may, (from time to time), elect to close inactive accounts. Your personal data will be erased from our system within 30 days of your account’s closure.
We retain usage data for internal analysis purposes only for a short period of time. Exception being when this data is used to strengthen the security or to improve the functionality of our service; or we are legally required to store this data longer.
To request closure of your account, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How we secure your data
All data is encrypted via SSL/TLS when transmitted from our servers to your browser. The database backups are also encrypted.
We work very hard to protect information about you against unauthorised access, use, alteration, or destruction, and take reasonable measures to do so. We constantly monitor our services for potential vulnerabilities and attacks, eliminating any possible threats to our best capability.
